Pumkin Walk and the cutest jungle cat ever...no LION!

Hey!

Here are a few pics I have taken over the last week of the annual Pumpkin Walk here in Logan and some of Gideon at our ward's halloween carnival. Oh yeah, and one of Gideon with an Easter egg in his mouth! He is so funny!

Aren't those pumpkins AMAZING! I can't believe the things people come up with! I am totally doing the garden thing with miniature pumpkins next year! Anyway, have a great day everybody!

P.S. Does anyone else's kid do the Easter egg in the mouth thing? I think it's hilarious! He loves to do it and he just walks aroung the house with it in his mouth! I would think his jaw would start hurting or something! LOL!

Craft for the week!

Hello, Hello! I decided I wanted to make something for myself this time so I made a necklace! Want to try? Well, it's your lucky day!

Materials:

Beads, any kind (mine were leftovers from a different project! I would have liked to use round beads, but I didn't have any...oooh-what about buying a cheap Christmas garland and using that?)

Beading thread or fishing like

glue gun

ribbon in coordinating color

First, cut your thread to measure about 45". You won't need that much but this way you won't run out. Then string three beads to the center:

Now, put one bead on but thread it with both ends of the thread so it closes up the other three like this:

Then you want to add one bead to each side then one bead the same way it looks above. This picture might help:
When you have your necklace to the desired length, (I wanted mine to be more of a choker so my bead part measures about 6.5") tie off the end and cut the remainder of the threads. MAKE SURE YOU TIE IT OFF WITH A KNOT IN THE CENTER OF THE BEAD OR ELSE IT WILL SHOW!Now take some ribbon (I measured out 33" then snipped it in half to I could use it on each side) and make a loop around the end bead. Hot glue the ribbon to itself to secure. Now do the same for the other side. Tie in a bow and TADA! Your very own, handmade necklace! Sure was easy, huh?

Two Crafts...as promised!

Okay, I have some SUPER easy crafts to make. One in time for Halloween and the other for fall/halloween/thanksgiving...the whole season.

First we have some adorable mummies that I made in like 5 minutes! SERIOUSLY! The longest part is having to cut the wood and paint! Here is how you do it:

First, cut three pieces of a 2x4. The first 6", the second 5", the third 4.5". Paint them all green (I bought my Green Apple colored paint at Wal-mart for 48 cents! Isn't that great?).

Once they are dry, draw some cute eyes and a wavy mouth (you don't have to do the mouth, you don't really see it anyway!) with a black sharpie OR you can hammer two nails in for the eyes (I didn't have any so I just drew them!).

Then get some gauze (get it at the dollar store or you may have some lying around!) and wrap it where you want it to go on your 6" block. (I cut my gauze in half because I thought it was too wide then used the extra on my 5" block). Take a brown marker or permanent ink pad and distress the edges of the gauze.

Lastly, secure the gauze with a glue gun, or if you are lazy and don't want to wait for it to heat up (like me!) just staple it into your wood! Do the remaining blocks the same way!

Ta-da! All done!!! I told you...5 minutes!

Okay, now the next one is a bit harder to explain but I'll try!

You will need:

Fabric (I used scrap fabric to make these)

wide-eyed needle (like for yarn)

needle and thread

cheap poly-fill

pretty, fall-colored yarn

a stick (you'll see!)

hot glue

raffia

Cut your fabric into a square. Take your needle and thread and run it along the perimeter of the square cutting the corners. Pull the thread until it makes a pouch and stuff the pouch in the shape of a pumpkin. Pull the thread tightly but leave a little opening in the center. You should now have a pumpkin-like ball. Now, you are going to create the grooves that run up and down the pumpkins. Take your yarn and needle and go directly through the center until you poke out the bottom. Then take it back through the top. That is your first groove. Continue doing this until you have as many grooves as you like on your pumpkin. Tie it off and cut the yarn at the bottom. Now take your hot glue and glue a piece of your stick (you judge how long you want it) to the center of your pumpkin. Tie with raffia and you're done!

Craft Blog?

So I L-O-V-E crafting. The only thing I hate is having to search tirelessly for instructions and new ideas. So...to make things easier on others, I was thinking of putting the crafts I find on my blog. Would that be cool, or not? I have TONS of ideas, but I'm not sure anyone would like to see them. I figure I could do like two craft posts a week. Leave me a comment telling me what you think.

Did everyone know I do vinyl? If you didn't...well, now you know. That is where this whole craft thing started. I am extremely cheap and will not pay for something I can make myself! So if you're interested drop me a line.

Gideon's Party!

Ok so you know how you plan something so well that everything goes perfectly? NO? Well, OF COURSE NOT! BECAUSE IT NEVER DOES!!!

I'm not mad; just annoyed. Newsflash: I live in Logan where the weather is even more unpredictable than the rest of the state of Utah. So we had Gideon's party planned and everything was going to be perfect...even the weather. It wasn't. It was so cold outside that I had to move the party to the cultural hall at my church building and ended up being a half-hour late to my own son's birthday!

Everyone said that they had a good time, but they have to say that...right? Anyway, one of my favorite parts was having all of the kids unwrap the presents they brought and then hand them to Gideon (Gideon has a terrible tendency to eat wrapping paper!). They LOVED unwrapping gifts even though they didn't get to keep them. I will be posting pics and video soon!

Anyway, I had a good time. It was fun and I'm sure we'll do it all over again next year!

Happy First Birthday, Gideon!

Well, my darling little Gideon has finally turned one. It is a bittersweet day! Not only did I have to celebrate his birthday, we also watched General Conference! Needless to say, I did a lot of crying today!

I can just remember how small he was when he was first born and how dependent he was on me! It seems like just yesterday! And now, well, he's walking, talking, and he doesn't like to cuddle as much! I am so in love with this little boy. I can't wait for the next year!

Colin and I feel incredibly blessed to have Gideon in our lives. We were definitely spoiled to receive him in our lives! We love him so much and are excited for the future with our tiny little monkey!
