On a very sad note...tonight was my last Men's Aggie Basketball game as a student. It's weird to think I've been here for four years already. *sigh* Time sure does fly...
On an amazingly happy, can't wait to tell you about it note: We WON!!! Being a part of the Spectrum is such an amazing feeling! I know that people think we're totally rude and that we should be ashamed of ourselves...yadda, yadda, yadda... I can't imagine better fans than USU fans!!!! Our crowd does more than shout jeers at the other team, we help OUR team WIN! Don't believe me? Just look at our home win record. I am proud to be an Aggie and can't wait to see how they do at the WAC tourney!!!!

Block I Has Ended!
Well, I've survived my first block of student teaching!!!! I am very happy about the way it all went. Third grade was a fun place to start out and I really think I made a difference in their learning. It was so cute because today I saw a whole bunch of my third-graders and they all came over and hugged me and told me they missed me :( I miss them, too!
So, I started 5th grade today! I didn't spend much time talking to them because I was busy doing other things, but I think it will still be fun!
That's about it for updates. It seems like our lives are just school, school, school lately. Oh well, we're almost done for good!

Happy 25th Colin!
Colin celebrated his quarter of a century birthday yesterday! We didn't do too much because I didn't get home from school until quarter to 6, but I did make him wild rice-stuffed steaks for dinner. Gideon colored a card for daddy and graciously gave it to him without trying to yank it away as Colin reached for it...they're so funny.
We are planning on dinner and a movie tomorrow so we can celebrate properly. Oh yeah, we need to do presents tomorrow too! I better get those wrapped...
Boy oh boy, I have no time for anything anymore! Student teaching is very busy! not too difficult, just busy!

Christmas, School, you know...
Hey family, friends, people who are just browsing blogs...
Welcome to 2010! Oh my gosh! The last year in the first decade of a new century, millenium, etc! I cannot believe it! I just know that once I'm an old lady people are going to be asking me about the early 2000s and I'm actually going to be able to answer... Ugh! LOL!
Anyways... so I haven't blogged since early in December because I have had a really big secret that I wasn't able to share with anyone until after Christmas...Colin and I surprised his Mom by taking our family to Maryland for two weeks. We showed up two days before Christmas and stayed until after the new year! It was a very memorable time and a very fun time, too! It was fun to share some of my Christmas traditions with Colin's family and I even shared one of my favorite games that I used to play with my Grandpa Petersen: DIMES! JSYK, it's one of the Cook family's favorite games now!
As for the new year, Colin and I are back in school. I am really enjoying student teaching...SERIOUSLY! I can't really say much about it at this point seeing as how it's only been a week, but it is way fun! Colin has taken the role of house-husband when he isn't at school extremely well. Right now he's cleaning the bathrooms and doing laundry...I KNOW! I can't believe it either! It's actually pretty cute.
So, that is why I haven't posted. I just knew I was going to let it slip and someone was going to tell Lauren and then everything would have been ruined! I'm terrible with secrets!
Anyway, I hope you are all doing very well and that your 2010 is filled with life, laughter, and love! Corny, I know!

Teaching Updates, Snow, and Tears!
HELLO!
First of all, some very exciting news! I just received my student teaching placement!!!! I will be teaching 3rd and 5th grades at Edith Bowen Lab School....right up on campus!!! I was really worried because I didn't want to have to travel and spend even more time away from home next semester, but this worked out so well! Colin and I will even be able to commute (for like 10 seconds!LOL!) together! I am super excited and very nervous all at the same time!
Secondly, my little boy HATES winter! I am so sad about this because I really thought he would like to do things like sledding and making snow angels and attacking daddy with snowballs... But, alas, not all dreams come true! We took Gideon sledding for the first time a few days ago and he bawled the whole time! We tried again today with the SAME results! Boo! Maybe in a few years... :(
I am getting really excited about Christmas though! I love this time of year. At church on Sunday I said that I really felt like the Grinch for eleven months of the year and then December rolls around and my heart grows so much! It is a wonderful feeling, no?

Crafts!
Ok, so I have two crafts because I didn't do one last week. Actually, I did DO one last week I just didn't post it... And, I still don't have pictures to show, but I have tutorials. The first one (the one I did for Thanksgiving), is a hand print from Cluck Cluck Sew here. I did a really simplified version where I took the backing of one of the frames that I used for other projects and mod podged material onto it. Here are the steps for my simplified version:
1. Mod Podge material to frame
2. While that dries, try and get your little one to cooperate and trace his hand on cardstock or paper. This is your pattern!
3. Cut your pattern out of a different color of fabric and mod podge that to your frame.
4. Write with craft pen or permanent marker:
FIRST NAME
MIDDLE
LAST NAME
DATE
5. Finish off with jute!
DONE!!! Ta-da!
My next one is a sock monkey. I absolutely love sock monkeys and I really wanted to make one for Gideon for Christmas. Would you believe it only cost me a $1 to make???? I already had some poly-fil so all I had to pay for were the socks! Anyway, the tutorial is here. Let me tell you, it was super easy! I am definitely not a sewer and I think it was easy! My friend Delia is a sewer and I know she could make 50 of these in the time it takes me to make one though! Anywho, it took me an hour to make the whole thing. You really should check them out!!!! So cute!

Craft for the Week
Okay, so I don't have a picture quite yet, but it will end up looking like:
I've seen these around in magazines and stuff, but they are ridiculously priced, so I'm making my own!
Materials:
8x10 frame (make sure you get one that has your preferred color of frame) (Document frames from the Dollar Tree would work too!)
Mod Podge
Printer and a sheet of cardstock
antiquing ink
wooden letter, painted your preferred color ($2 at Hobby Lobby, less at Walmart)
ribbon or jute
How-to:
Print your saying on your piece of cardstock. Just copy and paste until the page is filled up. I am going to use the saying: "other things may change us, but we start and end witht the family" Antique it with a brown ink pad. Be careful not to push too hard on the ink pad (like I did! Grr!)Remove the glass or plastic from the frame. Glue your printed page onto the backing of your frame. Mod Podge over it. While it's drying, paint your letter and let it dry too. Then attach your ribbon or jute to it wherever you feel looks pretty. Once everything is nice and dry, attach your letter to your frame backing and voila! You're done! YAY!
